In memory of our friend Jack Mays
Jack Mays
All of us here at HERD Foundation are heartbroken to learn that our friend Jack Mays passed on Saturday, 12/4. Jack was very important to us and our equine companions, especially Stitch.
Jack was a retired Marine and a graduate of our Freedom Patch Program. Please consider donating to HERD Foundation in Jack’s memory. Please keep his wife and his three daughters in your thoughts and prayers.
The donate link is below and a few pictures of Jack with us at HERD Foundation.
Jack Mays,
USMC Veteran
June 3, 1948- December 4, 2021
It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to HERD member Jack Mays. Jack was introduced to the HERD in June 2019. He brought with him a genuine love, respect, and curiosity for all of the HERD horses and people alike. He quickly bonded with and became the primary friend, student, and teacher of Stitch. Jack's way of being modeled for all of us, the value of herd, family and belonging. Jack often said that Tara Farm was his happy place. He would frequently stop in just to say hi and to take a stroll with Stitch. He was also notorious for smuggling contraband (treats) to the horses.
His wife wrote of Jack, after his passing, “He was the builder of all trades, the lover of all animals, especially Stitch and the Herd Foundation.” His love is still felt across the farm.
The HERD salutes Jack Mays. Ride easy, friend, ride easy. Semper Fi.
